Sask Sport Inc. announced the finalists and recipients for the 2011 Saskatchewan Sport Awards, which includes the Athlete of the Year Awards Finalists, and the Award Recipients for the Coaching Awards, the Volunteer Awards and the Officials’ Awards.

The Saskatchewan Sport Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of Saskatchewan amateur athletes and those individuals who provide their support so these athletes can achieve their goals. This year, the committee received 72 nominations for the various award categories.

“We are proud of our provincial athletes who excel at the regional, national and international levels, and the Saskatchewan Sport Awards is our opportunity to recognize their accomplishments. Our athletes are supported by a vast network of coaches, officials and volunteers and we want to thank them and everyone for their contributions to sport in the province,” said Sask Sport President Eric Honetschlager.

Sask Sport has made some exciting new changes to the Saskatchewan Sports Awards program.

A Sport Awards Banquet will not be held this year - we are moving to celebrate and profile the achievements of Saskatchewan’s top athletes, teams, coaches, officials and volunteers throughout the year. In addition to an announcement, we will be looking at more opportunities to profile the Saskatchewan Sport Award Recipients in order to reach more people over a greater span of time.
