Kaylyn Kyle • Saskatoon • Soccer
Nominated by Saskatchewan Soccer Association
 | |
In 2011, Kaylyn Kyle, age 23, played midfielder in 21 out of 23 possible Team Canada soccer games, the second most soccer game appearances by a Canadian player in a single season. She competed with Team Canada at all three FIFA Women's World Cup games in Germany, and although the team did not reach the knock out game stage, Kyle put in a strong performance for her team. She also helped her team capture gold at both the Cyprus Women's Cup (scoring a goal in Canada's 2-1 victory over Colombia in the semi-final) and the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. At both of these events, Canada defeated the very strong soccer teams from Brazil and Argentina. At the club level, Kyle competed with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, but unfortunately, the team lost out in the Western League's semi-final match. During her spare time, Kyle returned to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies team and the Saskatchewan Soccer Association to visit with the players and managers. In the Fans Favourite Canadian Female Player of the Year soccer award, Kyle is currently in second place in the voting process.
