    SASKATCHEWAN SPORT AWARDS
    The Saskatchewan Sport Awards were presented at TCU Place in Saskatoon on March 22. Athlete of the Year award recipients and finalists were honored in six categories: Youth-Female, Youth-Male, Male, Female, Master, and Team of the Year. Awards were also presented for Coach of the Year, Female and Male Coach Dedication Awards, Female and Male Official Awards, and Volunteer Awards. Read the Media Release or learn more.

    TONY COTE WINTER GAMES
    The 2018 Tony Cote Winter Games took place from April 1-6 in Saskatoon with athletes participating in badminton, basketball, broomball, curling, hockey, table tennis, and volleyball.

    PYEONGCHANG 2018 PARALYMPICS: A RECORD-BREAKING WINTER GAMES FOR TEAM CANADA PARALYMPIANS
    Canada finished with 28 medals-the most ever at a Paralympic Winter Games! With 8 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 16 bronze medals, Canada finished well ahead of its previous best of 19 medals. We are #SaskProud of Saskatchewan athletes and coaches:
  • Kurt Oatway of Regina received a gold medal in Para Alpine Men's Super G, Sitting;
  • Ken Babey of Saskatoon received silver medal as head coach Para Ice Hockey;
  • Brittany Hudak of Prince Albert won bronze in Women's Para Nordic (Biathlon) 12.5KM, Standing;
  • Marie Wright of Moose Jaw won bronze in Wheelchair Curling; and,
  • Wayne Kiel of Balgonie received a bronze medal as head coach Wheelchair Curling.

    2018 GOLD COAST COMMONWEALTH GAMES
    Saskatchewan will have seven athletes, two coaches and one team manager represented at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018). Saskatchewan also has three additional alternate athletes registered. The largest sporting event to be staged in Australia this decade, GC2018 will feature the largest integrated sports program in Commonwealth Games history, comprising 18 sports and seven parasports.

    For the first time at a Commonwealth Games, an equal number of men's and women's medal events will be contested and several new events will make their debut, including Beach Volleyball, Para Triathlon and Women's Rugby Sevens.

    WOMEN IN SPORT ENCOURAGEMENT (WISE) FUND GRANT
    Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport (CAAWS) is delighted to present Swift Current native, Jackie Powell, to receive a Women in Sport Encouragement (WISE) Fund grant for 2018. There are 10 recipients nationally, and each of them is offering or creating opportunities and programming for girls and women in sport.

    Jackie Powell is the first female swim coach and first Special Olympic coach to enrol in the Advanced Coaching Diploma with the Canadian Sport Institute in Calgary. She has previously coached locally, provincially, and nationally by representing Canada at the Special Olympics World Games and as a master coach developer for Special Olympics Canada.

    Sask Sport has expanded its longstanding Respect in Sport service to include their new Respect in Sport Respect Resource Line available 365 days per year! It provides bilingual response to calls, texts or emails by expert staff who will guide you to the necessary resources pertaining to:
  • child and youth maltreatment
  • bullying
  • hazing
  • national/provincial child and youth protection laws, and
  • organization-specific risk management and dispute resolution models.

    The nation-wide, toll-free, Respect Resource Line is CONFIDENTIAL and ANONYMOUS, and can be accessed via:

    GATHERING STRENGTH: FRAMEWORK FOR RECREATION IN CANADA FORUM 2018
    Early Bird registration pricing has been extended to April 13!
    Gathering Strength is an important step towards achieving the values and golas of the Framework for Recreation in Canada. The Forum will showcase successful strategies, create dialog and build relationships for moving the Framework forward.

    The Forum will be held on May 8-10, 2018 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
