POWER OF SPORT ON DISPLAY AT THE 2018 TONY COTE WINTER GAMES
The 2018 Tony Cote Winter Games were a celebration of the power of Indigenous sport. From April 1-6 in Saskatoon, young athletes from 74 First Nation communities in Saskatchewan competed in a variety of sports including badminton, basketball, broomball, curling, hockey, table tennis and volleyball. The total event turnout was 3,500 including athletes, coaches and chaperones.

"People come together for the games and that's what I like about it," said Games Manager Lyle Daniels. "The games provide an opportunity for our young people to shine, to be proud of who they are and where they come from, and possibly take home a medal. This is very positive for our community." Quality sport means good programs (based on Long-Term Athlete Development), delivered by good people (knowledgeable and caring) in good places (welcoming, inclusive, and safe). It is a simple formula, however optimizing all the factors can be challenging. Every organization has to discover what works in their own unique context. In this webinar, the presenters will provide insight into how to build community programs that retain more athletes in enriched training and competition environments longer, enabling them to reach their full potential.
