AUGUST 12TH WAS DECLARED DON NARCISSE DAY IN SASKATCHEWAN
Don Narcisse Day presented by SaskEnergy in support of KidSport™ was held on August 12th. Narcisse, who now resides in Texas, was welcomed back to Saskatchewan as part of the Canadian Football League's (CFL) Hall of Fame induction weekend. In 1998, Narcisse approached SaskEnergy with a concept. For every football he caught during a game, SaskEnergy would donate funds to a charity close to his heart. And the concept of “Catch For KidSport™” began. This program continues to this day, raising $374,000 on behalf of KidSport from 1998 to 2009. Narcisse continues to show his generosity to Saskatchewan children by donating proceeds from his memorabilia, including the football he caught during the 1989 Grey Cup win, Rider game-worn jerseys and many other items that will be available for auction. TAIT NYSTUEN NAMED SASK SPORT INC. JULY ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
On July 4, Tait Nystuen competed at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships in Moncton, NB, where he achieved a personal best of 51.79 seconds to take the gold medal in the men's 400 meter hurdles. This marked the fastest performance this year for junior men, broke the Saskatchewan Athletics Junior record set in 1987 by over two seconds, and broke the Senior record set in 2001. Read More

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FLASH MOB
Check out the Saskatchewan in motion flash mob event at the Regina Cornwall Centre from Thursday, August 26th. A flash mob is a new, hot way to promote messages to youth. The intent of the flash mob is to do something unexpected to attract attention. The value is in the attention of the youth audience it reaches when it goes viral, such as on YouTube, reaching thousands with their message. YouTube Link

 

ENABLING ACCESSIBILITY FUND (EAF)
The Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) supports community-based projects across Canada that improve accessibility, remove barriers, and enable Canadians with disabilities to participate in and contribute to their communities. The Government of Canada's Office for Disability Issues has just announced a Call for Proposals for Small Projects Enabling Accessibility is now open.
