    #SASKPROUD SPOTLIGHT - MARIE WRIGHT, CANADIAN PARALYMPIC TEAM, CURLING (LEAD)
    Marie Wright (Moose Jaw) is off to her first Paralympics with coach Wayne Kiel (Balgonie). She began wheelchair curling in 2008. Over the years, she has competed all over Canada and around the world-most notably in the 2017 World Championships in Gangneung, South Korea, as an alternate for the 2015 World Championships in Finland, and in the 2012 and 2016 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championships.     #SASKPROUD SPOTLIGHT - CURTIS MINARD, CANADIAN PARALYMPIC TEAM, PARA SNOWBOARD
    Curtis (Curt) Minard burst on to the Para snowboard scene in 2016, taking home the gold medal in his first ever snowboard cross and banked slalom races at the NorAM Cup. In 2016-17, he finished sixth overall on the World Cup circuit, and in 2017-2018, Curt placed 2nd in the overall Para-SBX Men's Upper Limb World Cup standings.     WOMEN ON BOARDS FOR ORGANIZATIONS WEBINAR
    Studies show that diverse Boards make better decisions and increase organizational performance. Increasing female representation on Boards is a key way to drive these outcomes.

    On International Women's Day, March 8, between 2:00-3:00pm CST, the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) in partnership with Sask Sport Inc., will provide insightful information for Saskatchewan's provincial sport organizations and partners on how to create an inclusive Board culture, on the value of women on your Board, and on strategies to assist in overcoming some of the challenges and recruiting more women.

    FEBRUARY KIDSPORT SASKATCHEWAN VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH - ROB RONGVE
    Rob Rongve, together with Dave Schell (his KidSport North Battleford's Co-Chair), established KidSport North Battleford and has since helped raise approximately $5,000 in funding annually, totalling over $80,000!

    2018 CAS/SMSCS CONFERENCE
    September 28 & 29, 2018
    The Coaches Association of Saskatchewan and the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan have partnered to host a conference on September 28 & 29, 2018. "From Grassroots to the Olympian" - Integrating Sport Medicine and Science in the Development of the Athlete will be held at the Ramada Plaza in Regina. The conference will include keynote speakers, more than 20 breakout sessions, and a Friday evening social. More information and registration will be available in the upcoming months.

     

    RBC TRAINING GROUND FOR YOUTH AGES 14 TO 25
    March 17 - Saskatoon
    Athletes will compete in four exercises that include: Vertical Jump, 10/30/40 Metre Sprint, Isometric Mid-Thigh Pull, and 20 Metre Multi-Stage Shuttle Run. RBC Training Ground is a day of physical challenges for athletes to showcase their podium potential. Athletes who meet or exceed performance benchmarks set by national sport officials will be invited to attend the RBC Training Ground Regional final where they'll compete for a chance to receive funding and support to fuel their passion and ambition towards Olympic glory.

    PARASPORT CLUB DEVELOPMENT & EQUIPMENT GRANTS
    Application Deadline: March 22
    The Parasport Club Development Grant provides financial assistance to support "new" developmental programs in communities, or the expansion of existing sport programs for persons with a disability (such as new age groups, a new gender, or a new sport within an existing club setting). Funds can be used to offset regular costs related to program delivery, such as facility rental, coaching development, officiating, travel assistance, etc.

    The Parasport Equipment Grant provides financial assistance to assist the purchase of adapted equipment for people with a disability to participate in organized sport programs. The cost of specialized (adapted) equipment for athletes with a disability is a significant barrier to their participation.

    Application Deadlines for both grants are March 22 and/or September 22 annually; clubs must submit applications to their PSGB's and Districts.

    The Parasport grants are funded through a program of Sask Sport Inc. with Saskatchewan Lotteries proceeds. Saskatchewan Lotteries is the main fundraiser for 12,000 sport, culture and recreation and community groups in the province.

     

    CANADA SERVICE CORPS
    Call for Proposals for local and regional scale service projects
    The Government of Canada is looking for projects that benefit young people and allow them to grow on a personal level by building relationships, learning new skills, and creating a lasting impact on the communities they serve. Eligible local and regional organizations across Canada have until March 13, 2018, to apply for funding and must fall in one of the following categories:
    • not-for-profit or for-profit organizations;
    • research organizations and institutes;
    • Indigenous organizations (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities); and
    • municipal, provincial, or territorial governments, agencies, and crown corporations, public health and educational institutions (i.e., universities, colleges, CÉGEPs, school boards/school districts).

    GATHERING STRENGTH: FRAMEWORK FOR RECREATION IN CANADA FORUM 2018
    The Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) are excited to announce that registration is open for Gathering Strength: Framework for Recreation in Canada Forum 2018.

    From May 8-10, 2018 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Gathering Strength is an important step towards achieving the values and goals of the Framework for Recreation in Canada. The Forum will showcase successful strategies, create dialog and build relationships for moving the Framework forward across the country.

    Gathering Strength will benefit anyone interested in the continued growth and vitality of recreation across Canada. All recreation, parks and community development professionals, academics, educators, innovators, public health officials, policy makers, health promotion specialists and post-secondary students are invited to register and attend the engaging educational sessions, keynote presentations and social activities scheduled.

    The Early Bird Registration Deadline is March 29, 2018. Registration closes on April 24, 2018. Discounted rates are available for students.
