    SASK SPORT INC. ANNOUNCES THE 2014 SASKATCHEWAN SPORT AWARD RECIPIENTS
    Sask Sport Inc. is pleased to announce the recipients of 2014 Saskatchewan Sport Awards. Nominations were submitted by Sask Sport Inc's active and affiliate members for awards in the following categories: Athlete of the Year for master, youth male, youth female, male, female, and team; as well as awards for coach of the year, coach dedication, official male, official female and volunteer. www.sasksport.sk.ca/SportAwards

     

    PRESENTATION OF THE SASKATCHEWAN SPORT AWARD - 2014 FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
    Brianne These-Eaton was presented with her Saskatchewan Sport Award - 2014 Female Athlete of the Year Award on Friday, Jan 30th during the opening Ceremonies of the 50th Knights of Columbus Saskatchewan Indoor Games, at the Saskatoon Fieldhouse. Honouring and presenting the award to Brianne was Jeannette Kuc, Vice President, Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund and Bob Reindl, Executive Director, Saskatchewan Athletics. Brienne Theisen-Eaton and her husband Ashton Eaton, Olympian, World Record holder in both decathlon and heptathlon, were both be present. Sask Sport Inc. appreciates the support and the opportunity received from the Knights of Columbus organizers, and Saskatchewan Athletics and Global TV, production partner for the Saskatchewan Sport Awards, making it possible to present the award to such an outstanding Saskatchewan athlete and profile the sport of Athletics.

    THE YEAR OF SPORT 2015 - CANADA: A LEADING SPORT NATION
    On October 16, 2014, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada proclaimed 2015 as the Year of Sport. The proclamation celebrates the role sport plays in our Canadian identity. From local playgrounds, to recreational sport leagues all the way to high performance athletes, sport is vital to the cultural fabric of our nation.     TEAM SASK ANNOUNCED FOR 2015 CANADA WINTER GAMES
    Excitement was in the air as Lorne Lasuita, Chef de Mission for Team Sask, announced the team that will be representing Saskatchewan at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Team Sask 2015 will participate in the Jeux du Canada Games in Prince George, British Columbia, February 13th to March 1st, 2015. The team consists of 301 athletes, coaches, managers, technicians and participant assistants, as well as 19 Mission Staff. Team Sask is represented by approximately 64 communities across Saskatchewan. Read More

    2015 CANADA WINTER GAMES
    Prince George - February 13 to March 1, 2015
    Prince George and Northern British Columbia will play host to 2,400 athletes, 1,000 coaches and officials, up to 4,500 volunteers, hundreds of media and thousands of visitors. This event will be the largest multi-sport and cultural event to ever be held in Prince George and northern British Columbia and is forecasted to generate an economic impact of over $90 million while building champions and inspiring dreams amongst Canadian youth. Prince George is the first city in British Columbia to host a winter edition of the Canada Games and together with their Official Host First Nation, the Lheidli T'enneh, they can't wait to extend a heartfelt welcome to the athletes from over 800 communities for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Together, they'll write a northern story of spirit and passion inspiring unique and magical experiences for all Canadians.

    SASK SPORT INC. ANNOUNCES THE DECEMBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARD RECIPIENT
    Bree Crookshanks of Regina is the recipient of the Sask Sport Inc. December Athlete of the Month Award. She was nominated by Swim Saskatchewan. Crookshanks competed in the Thunderbolt Junior International Swim Meet, which consisted of 200 swimmers from three countries. She finished sixth in the 200m breaststroke and earned tenth place finishes in the 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke. She twice broke the 15-to-17 girls provincial record in the 200m breaststroke -- in the preliminary round and finals. She also broke the senior/open record in the finals.

    SASK SPORT INC. ANNOUNCES THE NOVEMBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARD RECIPIENT
    The Max Kirkpatrick Curling Team of Swift Current is the recipient of the Sask Sport Inc. November Athlete of the Month Award. The team was nominated by CurlSask. Kirkpatrick's curling squad won a gold medal at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships, defeating the Northwest Territories 7-4 in the final. It was Saskatchewan's 10th gold medal, all-time at the event, tying the province with Alberta for first. Read More

     

    PARASPORT SPORT EQUIPMENT GRANT & PARASPORT SPORT CLUB DEVELOPMENT GRANT
    Active or Affiliate members of Sask Sport Inc. are eligible to apply for support, but in addition, member organizations may partner with local or community organizations/clubs to further develop capacity for Parasport programming in the province. Application Deadline: April 15th and October 15th of each year. Read More

     

    CAAWS WOMEN AND LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS
    Sask Sport Inc., in partnership with the Canadian Association of the Advancement of Women in Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS), is offering CAAWS Women and Leadership Workshops. Three 3-hour workshops are available, designed to be delivered to a female only audience. Target Audience: These workshops are available for those interested in hosting workshops for female-only audiences, addressing women working or volunteering in Canada's sport and physical activity sector (administrators, coaches, officials, board members, volunteers etc.). These workshops are appropriate for hosting at events such as AGM's, coach development clinics, sport conferences, volunteer development etc. Interested in scheduling a workshop, contact: Noreen Murphy, Sask Sport Inc.     CANADA SPORTS FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE PROGRAMS (CSFEP)
    The Canada Sports Friendship Exchange Programs (CSFEP) operates Reciprocal Cultural Exchanges for the youth of Canada between the ages of 12 - 17 yrs old, through sports and non-sport groups. Our aims and goals are to promote friendship, better understanding and respect for one another's language and culture. The CSFEP receives a contribution from the Federal Government, Department of Canadian Heritage, to help cover travel expenses for these exchanges.

    2015 RED CROSS DAY OF PINK IN SASKATCHEWAN
    Wear pink on April 1, 2015 and show the world that you can imagine no bullying. It takes a year-round, whole community approach. But together we can help stop bullying behaviour. Red Cross Day of Pink is a day to bring awareness to bullying issues in Saskatchewan and encourage others to join the movement.

    The 2015 Conversation Women in Sport Conference - Moving the World Forward: Make the Change Happen
    June 9 - 12, 2015
    Quebec City, Quebec - Laval University

    Laval University, in collaboration with the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women, Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS), Egale Action (the Quebec Association for women in sport), Promotion Plus (BC) and Quebec en forme, will host the next national conference on women in sport: The 2015 Conversation: Moving the World Forward - Make the Change Happen. The "conversation" has been designed to help participants find concrete solutions to the recurring problems facing girls and women in the Canadian sport system.

    PSGB Executive Directors and/or senior administrative staff are eligible to apply for funding support to attend this conference as a professional development opportunity. Sask Sport will provide up to $500.00 per organization on a matching basis with the Provincial Sport Governing Body to assist individuals with costs related to attending.
