Leslie Blyth was elected Chair of Sask Sport Inc.’s Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting in Regina June 16, 2018. Blyth replaces outgoing Chair, Darren Wilcox, who remains on the Board Executive as Past Chair. The other members elected to Sask Sport’s Executive were Elan Ballantyne (Vice Chair, Saskatchewan Lotteries), Al Dyer (Vice Chair, Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation), Kenric Exner (Secretary Treasurer), and Dale Reed (Vice Chair, Sport). Jessie Buydens, Carol Chernishenko, Angella Pinay, Josh Shankowsky and Murray Stroeder were also elected to the Board. Other board members returning this year are Misty Alexandre and Todd Hollinger. Give Kids a Chance Charity Inc. exists to relieve poverty by providing basic amenities (food, registration fees, basic supplies) to economically disadvantaged children.

 

MAY ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
The Team Saskatchewan 19-and-under Women’s Water Polo team from Regina and surrounding areas is the recipient of the Sask Sport Inc. May Athlete of the Month Award. The team was nominated by Water Polo Saskatchewan.

FAST AND FEMALE CHAMP CHAT IN SASKATOON
Presented by Sask Sport and the City of Saskatoon, this Champ Chat is for girls ages 8-18 years old. Join Fast and Female Ambassadors Brittany Hudak, Jaime Boyer, Darcy-Dawn Ratt, Taryn Larson, and Wendy Stevenson for an inspirational chat and Q&A, autographs, and more! Participants will enjoy high quality face-to-face time with these athlete role models.

TEAM CANADA AND SASK SPORT TAKE PART IN SASKATOON #Pride
On June 23, members of both Sask Sport and the Canadian Olympic Committee, along with athletes walked in the Saskatoon Pride Parade. In 2018 The Canadian Olympic Committee and You Can Play are marching as #OneTeam in nine parades across the country this summer. This is one of the ways to show visibility and support to the LGBTQ+ community and helps to bring awareness to the work done year-round for LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Sport.

 

FROM GRASSROOTS TO THE OLYMPIAN & PARALYMPIAN CONFERENCE
The Coaches Association of Saskatchewan and the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan are hosting a conference in Regina on September 28 & 29. "From Grassroots to the Olympian & Paralympian: Integrating Sport Medicine and Science in the Development of the Athlete” promises to provide exciting presentations and top quality workshops led by knowledgeable and experienced resource people. COACH'S KITCHEN: RECIPES VIDEOS FOR SPORT PERFORMANCE
Coaches Association of Canada launched Coach's Kitchen – Recipe Videos for Sport Performance to provide coaches and parents with recipes that will support the dietary needs of their athletes. The recipe videos offer ideas on what to eat and drink before, during, and after training or competition in order to enhance performance. The 24 recipes have been assembled by Angela Dufour, Nutritionist at the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic and Performance Dietitian with Team Canada at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. JUNE KIDSPORT VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH – CAROL SPEIDELBACH
Carol has worked with KidSport Grenfell chapter for twenty years and accumulated numerous fond memories from different events. One of her most memorable is when some of the Saskatchewan Roughriders players came out to Grenfell. The players interacted with and signed memorabilia for all the kids in the area, including the Broadview football team.
