THE YEAR OF SPORT 2015 - CELEBRATING A GREAT SUMMER OF GAMES AND EVENTS
This summer Canada and Saskatchewan celebrated many amazing sporting events, uniting athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and families together across Canada.

The TORONTO 2015 Pan American Games took place July 10-26 and the TORONTO 2015 Parapan American Games August 7-15. Canada ended the Pan American Games with 217 medals: 78 gold, 69 silver, 70 bronze. Canada concluded its most successful Parapan American Games finishing second in the overall medal count behind Brazil and ahead of the U.S. Team Canada set a bold objective of a top 3 overall standing and collected a total of 168 medals, 50 Gold, 63 Silver, and 55 Bronze.

The FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015
After 52 matches played over 30 days, with 24 teams playing in the final competition, this was the biggest and the longest FIFA Women's World Cup ever. Other records happened along the way - Canada 2015 set a new total attendance record for a FIFA competition other than the FIFA World Cup. The total attendance was more than 1.35 million (with an average attendance of 26,029 spectators per match). There were 54,027 spectators at the Canada vs. England quarter-final match at BC Place in Vancouver, the biggest attendance for any National Team event in the history of Canada.

The Western Canada Summer Games 2015 Wood Buffalo
Team Sask competed in the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games in Wood Buffalo from August 7 - 16. Competing in a total of 18 sports in this two phase event, Team Sask boasted a team size of 404 athletes, coaches, managers, technicians and Mission Staff. Lexy Vincent and Brooke Hobson represented Saskatchewan as Flag Bearers and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies respectively. Both are multi-sport athletes, having competed for Team Sask at the 2013 Canada Summer Games and 2015 Canada Winter Games. Both began their multi-sport games experience at the Saskatchewan Games. Vincent led Canoe/Kayak with eight medals, and Hobson contributed to a Silver medal for the women's Golf team, placing 4th in the individual event. Team Sask placed 4th overall in the medal count with 22 Gold, 42 Silver, and 63 Bronze, and 4th overall with 164 Game Points, just three shy of third place. A big 'congratulations' goes out to all of our athletes. The province was represented well and your hard work paid off! A special thank you also to the coaches, managers, technicians and Mission Staff of Team Sask. Without you, none of it would have been possible. The next Western Canada Summer Games will be in Saskatchewan, with Swift Current hosting in 2019.
