    INTRODUCING THE ABORIGINAL CHAMPIONS PROGRAM
    The Aboriginal Champions Program is a new initiative to celebrate the accomplishments of Aboriginal athletes, coaches and supporters. Those chosen for this program will promote the benefits of sport,
    and act as role models to encourage others to participate in sport. Aboriginal Champions will be
    profiled through a variety of means including posters, advertisements, news articles, website profiles and more. These Champions will encourage youth to become more actively engaged in sport programs, and support adults and leaders to promote sport and encourage them to become volunteers and assist in program development.     MAJOR SPORT EVENT VISITORS SPENT $43.8 MILLION IN SASKATCHEWAN DURING 2009
    Statistics in a report released by Sask Sport Inc. identify a clear economic benefit of amateur sporting events to the Saskatchewan economy. The report, Estimated Visitor Expenditures of Regional, National and International Sporting Events, indicates that expenditures at 47 major amateur sporting events in Saskatchewan in 2009 topped $43.8 million.

    KELSIE HENDRY NAMED SASK SPORT INC. OCTOBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
    Nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics, Hendry competed at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India in the women's pole vault competition. Her performance of 4.25 meters resulted in a tie for the bronze medal, her first medal at a Commonwealth Games. Read More

    SASKATCHEWAN COACH LYLE SANDERSON RECEIVED GEOFF GOWAN AWARD FOR LIFETIME CONTRIBUTIONS TO COACHING DEVELOPMENT IN CANADA

    SASKATCHEWAN RACQUETBALL COACH EARNS AWARD
    One of this year's Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Awards has gone to Saskatoon's Loren Prentice, who is the coach for Brandi Jacobson Prentice, who won two bronze medals at the world racquetball championships. The award is given in recognition for coaching an athlete who excelled at a world championship or the Olympic or Paralympic Games. In total, 43 coaches across Canada were selected for the excellence award. Prentice will receive his award during Petro-Canada's Sport Leadership awards ceremony on Friday in Ottawa.     FOOTBALL SASKATCHEWAN DEVELOPS SPORT IN NON-TRADITIONAL TERRITORY
    After being inspired by the success of a northern football program on Quebec's Cree Nation of Chisasibi, Football Saskatchewan, with the support of Cameco Corporation, decided to establish its own "Football in the North" pilot program in La Ronge this year. A four-week football camp was setup in July to encourage children from Grades 3 and up, as well as adults, to learn how to play football. Read More

     

    NCCP FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENT SKILLS
    The NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) workshop is designed to teach leaders of youth how to analyze and improve a child's movement pattern along a development continuum. The workshop has been tailored for delivery in three distinct settings:

  • Coach Professional Development - a 3-hour PD workshop for coaches
  • Community Leader - a 8-hour workshop for leaders of youth in physical activity
  • High School Leadership - for senior students facilitated by a PE teacher in a PE class setting.
