    2015 SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD SUMMER GAMES TRIBUTE
    On Thursday, November 19 at the Saskatchewan Legislative building during the session in the House, the Hon. Mark Docherty, Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport and the Government of Saskatchewan honoured and introduced two amazing Saskatchewan athletes and coach: Michael Qing from Regina, Lindsay Kinnear from Lumsden and Special Olympics Coach, Jackie Powell from Swift Current. This tribute was to recognize their achievements at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games and for their hard work and dedication in their sport. Afterwards, they got together for a visit with our Minister and Premier and enjoyed some group photos with their families, members from their Provincial Sport and Special Olympics Saskatchewan. www.specialolympics.sk.ca

     

    OCTOBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARD RECIPIENT
    Shannon Comerford of Saskatoon is the recipient of the Sask Sport Inc. October Athlete of the Month Award. She was nominated by the Saskatchewan Fencing Association. Comerford placed seventh in the Senior Women's Foil Division at the Senior World Cup in Mexico on Oct. 13. There were 59 international competitors in her division. Comerford is a member of the Senior Women's National Foil Team. Media Release

     

    2014 SASKATCHEWAN SPORT AWARD PRESENTATIONS
    The 2014 Volunteer Award Presentation was made to Carol Chernishenko of Zehner, for her dedication and commitment in the sport of Synchronized Swimming. This took place in front of Carol's Synchro peers on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Synchro Sask Annual Awards Banquet, held in conjunction with the Fall Development Camp & Marnie Eistetter Figures Meet in Estevan.     In addition to the variety of tools and resources available for Sask Sport members to help raise awareness of the importance of officials to amateur sport in Saskatchewan, to support your recruiting, education and recognition efforts, and to share the message of respectful participation, we are pleased to provide 3 different pull-up banners that you can use at your indoor meetings and events.     CALL FOR TEAM SASK MISSION STAFF - 2017 CANADA SUMMER GAMES
    The Saskatchewan Games Council Inc. is responsible to provide a Mission Staff team to support the 17 sports that will be participating in the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, MB from July 28 - August 13, 2017. The call for applications is now open and interested individuals are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is December 15, 2015.

    FOOTBALL SASKATCHEWAN WORKS WITH ABORIGINAL ATHLETES
    Football Saskatchewan has made it a priority to bring the sport of football to Aboriginal athletes across the province. Through a variety of programs it runs out of northern Saskatchewan, the provincial sport governing body is giving athletes the tools to succeed in football. "In Saskatchewan there's a large population of First Nations and Metis athletes that we get to work with, especially in northern communities. We think it's an important demographic," said Football Saskatchewan High Performance Director Cody Halseth. "We think it's important to reach out and ensure football is part of their life, because it's a great sport and teaches a lot of life lessons." Read More

    The November 2015 edition of "Impact Regina" is now available on the Regina Regional Opportunities Commission website, www.reginaroc.com/economicindicators . "Impact Regina" is a joint initiative between the Regina Regional Opportunities Commission, Praxis Consulting, and SJ Research Services. It provides a concise Economic Report Card of key economic indicators for Regina and Region, updated monthly.     JACK DONOHUE AWARD WINNER 2015 LISA THOMAIDIS, CHPC - BASKETBALL
    For the past 3 years, Lisa Thomaidis has taken on the leadership role of the Senior Women National Team as its head coach and most recently lead it to a gold medal performance at the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games and to a first-place finish at the FIBA Americas tournament, clinching a Rio Olympic Games CAAWS Women and Leadership Workshops.

    THE SPIRIT OF '89: MEMORIES FROM THE 1989 JEUX CANADA SUMMER GAMES
    The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF) was pleased to announce that The Spirit of '89: Memories from the 1989 Jeux Canada Summer Games, co-published by the SSHF and The 1989 Jeux Canada Games Foundation, has been awarded an "ISHY" from the International Sports Heritage Association (ISHA) as the best book publication in the industry for institutions with a budget greater than $250,000 US.

    ISHA is a membership organization incorporated in 1971 to assist sport museums and halls of fame to develop, operate and promote their facilities in the best way possible. Member institutions are currently located throughout North & South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

    CANADA 150 FUND
    The Canada 150 Fund has been launched to support projects and activities which celebrate and/or commemorate Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation, and which provide opportunities for Canadians to participate in activities that contribute to building a sense of pride and attachment to Canada. The overarching theme for Canada 150 is Strong, Proud and Free. Any Canadian non-profit organization is eligible to apply. You are welcome to pass this information along to your community sport networks as they also hope to generate interest and applications from a variety of organizations working in sport and/or with youth across the province.     RSO PRESENTS "THE HOCKEY SWEATER"
    The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF) is very excited to officially announce their partnership with the Regina Symphony Orchestra for their production of "The Hockey Sweater" as part of their Kids Concert Series. Join the Hall for pre-concert games and activities before this stunning performance just across the street at the Knox Metropolitan Church.

    SSHF 50TH ANNIVERSARY ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
    The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF) is thrilled to be celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2016; however, they need your help to make this our best year yet! They are looking for people to help plan, organize and implement special events during the New Year.

    Don't live in Regina but still want to be involved? No problem! They are planning events throughout Saskatchewan to showcase our provinces amazing sport history. All communication can be accommodated through email and conference calls; residing in Regina is not a requirement.
