    THE DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS IS FAST APPROACHING!
    Submit Your Nominations by December 4th at Midnight
    All Sask Sport active members (Provincial Sport Organizations) and affiliate members (Districts) can recognize and honour their Athletes, Coaches, Officials and Volunteers for their outstanding achievements, dedication and contributions in Saskatchewan amateur sport during 2017 by nominating them for the 2017 Saskatchewan Sport Awards. Consider nominating in the Athlete of the Year category, an athlete you previously nominated for Athlete of the Month during 2017.
    SASK SPORT INC. ANNOUNCES THE OCTOBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARD RECIPIENT
    Shelby Newkirk of Saskatoon is the recipient of the Sask Sport Inc. October Athlete of the Month Award. She was nominated by Swim Saskatchewan. At the Para-Swimming Canadian Open Championships in Toronto, Newkirk finished first in the S7 100 metre backstroke and set a world record with a time of 1 minute 21.43 seconds. Newkirk, competing in her first event as part of the national team, earned the top carding level from Sport Canada as a result of this performance. Her performance has also put her in contention for a spot on the 2018 Commonwealth Games Team. Media Release

     

    2018 SASKATCHEWAN WINTER GAMES
    The City of North Battleford is excited to be hosting the Saskatchewan Winter Games from February 18-24, 2018!     2020 SASKATCHEWAN SUMMER GAMES HOST SELECTED
    Lloydminster has officially been named the host city for the 2020 Saskatchewan Summer Games. As the host city the community is expected to gain a legacy of new or upgraded facilities, sporting equipment, experienced officials, and a core group of volunteers, as well as see a significant economic and tourism benefit. This is the second time Lloydminster has hosted the Saskatchewan Summer Games, the first time being in 2008. Read More

     

    SWSA TO HOST 2018 CANADIAN WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL LEAGUE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
    Wheelchair Basketball Canada is coming to Martensville, from May 4-6, 2018 as the top club teams in the country will compete at the 2018 CWBL National Championship! This tournament will showcase the inclusive nature of wheelchair basketball as the top male and female players from across Canada, both with and without disabilities, put their skill and athleticism on display as they compete with their club teams for the title of national champion. The festivities will also include the Wheelchair Basketball Canada Annual Awards and Hall of Fame ceremony. Read More

     

    EQUIPMENT DONATION
    The Saskatoon Equipment Drive Committee (formed under KidSport Saskatoon), in partnership with Sport Central in Edmonton, AB, facilitated the delivery of an estimated $400,000 worth of new and gently-used sports equipment on November 16, 2017 to the Big Island Lake Cree Nation and Yellow Quill First Nation. This donation will help the youth in those communities participate in sport. Learn More

     

    CANADA'S FIRST 24-HOUR MOVEMENT GUIDELINES FOR EARLY YEARS
    Canada's first-ever 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for children in their early years - aged four and under - are now available for parents and caregivers. These guidelines show the interrelationship between physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep, and make recommendations on the amount of each that is needed for a child's optimal health.     WOMEN ATHLETES' SPORT PERFORMANCE AND WELL-BEING
    The University of Saskatchewan is conducting sport research with women athletes aged 16-35 who have at least one year of sport experience by competing at the local, provincial, regional, national or international level, and have an important upcoming competition. Women cannot be pregnant or lactating. Athletes who choose to participate will complete two individual interviews that will be audio recorded, one before and one after the competition.
