ANDREW ALBERS NAMED OCTOBER SASK SPORT INC ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
Albers helped his team to win the bronze medal at the Word Cup in Baseball. He then went on to compete at the Pam Am Games, where his team won the gold medal. Albers was the starting pitcher in the championship game against Team USA. He pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up only one earned run. Albers was nominated by the Saskatchewan Baseball Association. The other nominees were: the HUSA Alumni Soccer Team, and Troy Bulmer, golf.

LEADERS IN CANADIAN SPORT HONOURED
Canada’s top coaches and sport administrators were honoured at the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Awards Gala, hosted by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), at The Fairmont Royal York hotel in downtown Toronto.
Several leaders from Saskatchewan were honoured:
- Investors Group National Volunteer Sport Administrator Award: Kirsten Brough, Regina (Synchro)
This award recognizes the contribution to community sport programs made by a dedicated volunteer who has given countless hours of time so that coaches and athletes can enjoy the benefits of well-organized sport.
- Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Awards:
Merv Fonger, Moose Jaw (Curling) and Jackie Powell, Swift Current (Special Olympic Swimming)
These prestigious awards recognize coaches whose athletes have excelled at World Championships, Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Special Olympics World Games.

2012 SASKATCHEWAN SUMMER GAMES
The 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games will be held in Meadow Lake from July 29 to August 4, 2012. In 2012 the Saskatchewan Games will celebrate 40 years since the first Saskatchewan Games were held in Moose Jaw in 1972. A special celebration is being planned to coincide with the games being held in Meadow Lake. The sports included on the sport calender for 2012 are: archery, athletics (includes Special Olympics), baseball, basketball, canoe/kayak, equestrian, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and triathlon. SPORT MATTERS GROUP - SPORT 2.0: TOWARDS A NEW ERA IN CANADIAN SPORT
In light of the successful Olympic Games in Vancouver and the opportunity afforded by the current Canadian Sport Policy renewal process, 2011 is a pivotal year for sport in Canada. There is a strong desire to set a new frame post-Vancouver 2010, to chart a new course for the decade ahead that will take sport to the next level, maximizing both excellence in sport performance and the contribution sport can make to Canadian society more broadly. The goal of the Sport Matters Group is to help the sport sector capitalize on this momentum by working together to achieve more sport, better sport, and more intentional use of sport.

2011 SASKATCHEWAN SPORT AWARDS NOMINATIONS
Nominations are open for the Saskatchewan Sport Awards. Nomination packages were sent to Sask Sport Inc. Active and Affiliate Members for the 2011 Athlete of the Year Award categories of Master, Youth Male, Youth Female, Male, Female and Team of the Year; Saskatchewan Coaching Awards; Saskatchewan Officiating Awards; and, Volunteer Recognition Awards. ABORIGINAL CHAMPIONS
The champions are successful athletes and/or coaches and serve as outstanding role models for the Aboriginal community. It is our intent to promote their inspiring messages, and encourage others to participate in sport to the extent of their interest and abilities. This issue we will profile Colette Bourgonje Métis Champion Porcupine Plain, SK. Since 1992, she has attended nine different Paralympic games - in Barcelona, Tignes-Albertville, Lillehammer, Atlanta, Nagano, Sydney, Salt Lake City, Torino and Vancouver - and has won ten medals. Since 2000 she has focused on sit-ski, but she competed in both summer and winter events prior to that.

KHS CAREER FAIR 2012
Monday, February 13, 2012 at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration fee - $150 ($75 for Not-for-Profit organizations)
The purpose of the Career Fair is:
- To provide an opportunity for professionals to promote their organizations/agencies to current Bachelor of Kinesiology and Bachelor of Health Studies students.
- To expose students to the types of careers available to graduates of the Health Studies and Kinesiology degree programs.
- To provide professionals with an opportunity to recruit students for potential Fieldwork placements.

The website will contain a range of information including sports, cultural events, special events, partners, schedules and monthly newsletters.
