    TWO-DAY ABORIGINAL ENGAGEMENT CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN SASKATOON
    Mawe Wicihitowin means to "work together." Fittingly, the mission statement of the Mawe Wicihitowin Conference - scheduled for Nov. 17-18 at TCU Place in Saskatoon - is "learning from one another to build community."

    This two day conference focuses on relevant issues concerning Aboriginal engagement and service delivery issues facing organizations today. The conference provides an outstanding opportunity for provincial sport governing bodies and their members to gain a better understanding of Aboriginal culture.

    The opening keynote address will be delivered by Stephen Kakfwi (CEO of Canadians for a New Partnership; Former Premier of the Northwest Territories; Former President of Dene Nation). The close keynote address will be delivered by Justice Murray Sinclair (Chair of the Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission; Ojibway-Canadian Judge; First Nations Lawyer).

    The conference will provide:

    • Learning opportunities for individuals in respect to their cultural competency;
    • Networking opportunities for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal individuals in Saskatoon and area;
    • Non-Aboriginal organizations with resources to assist in engaging the Aboriginal community as employees and volunteers;
    • Opportunities to consult with Aboriginal Elders in terms of how organizations can best incorporate Aboriginal values within program and service delivery in order to create culturally safe organizations.
