NOMINATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE SASKATCHEWAN SPORT AWARDS
The sport awards recognize the province's finest amateur athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers for their outstanding accomplishments and dedication to sport. Nominations are now being excepted in the categories of: Athlete of the Year Awards, Volunteer Recognition Awards, Coach of the Year, Coach Dedication Awards and Officials' Award. The nomination deadline is December 17, 2010.

INTRODUCING THE 2011 SASKENERGY SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS CALENDAR
KidSport™ Saskatchewan, SaskEnergy and the Saskatchewan Roughriders are set to launch the 2011 SaskEnergy Saskatchewan Roughriders Calendar for KidSport™. Riders players will be at the launch to sign autographs, and the first 100 people to purchase a calendar will receive a free Riders commemorative loonie. The 2011 calendar features Rider players from the past and present including: Narcisse, Holmes, Durant, Fantuz, and many more. You are invited to attend the calendar launch on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm at The Rider Store, Northgate Mall.

ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM SUPPORTS NEW MESSENGERS
With support from the Aboriginal Community Grant Program, 12 youth became New Messengers as part of a commemoration and reconciliation ceremony during the Back to Batoche Festival. Shannon Loutitt, who organized the New Messengers, says these youth were able to have an experience of a lifetime by participating in an Honour Run. These youth were called New Messengers and they ran from Saskatoon to Batoche to pay tribute to Canada’s fallen soldiers including those who lost their lives during the 1885 Northwest Rebellion.

SASKATCHEWAN ATHLETES AND COACH PREPARING FOR 2010 DELHI COMMONWEALTH GAMES
Saskatchewan is sending 10 athletes and a coach to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, Oct. 3 to 14, 2010, including national champions in pole vaulting, diving, lawn bowls, shooting, and wrestling.

Over 100 pages long, the Guide represents a summary of our work on risk management in the sport community from over the last 20 years. In particular, the Guide consolidates our learnings from the Risk Management Project - a True Sport-funded initiative managed by the Centre for Sport and Law from 2007 to the present.

NEW STUDY LINKS EARLY ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION WITH SUCCESS LATER IN LIFE
Sports supporters have long insisted that playing sports in school contributes to a child's success later in life, and they point to various evidence as proof: a disproportionate number of CEOs with an athletic side; employers who look for a sports background on résumés to decide between candidates; and studies showing that people who play sports in high school go on to earn more than those who don't. The Women's Sports Foundation has worked for decades to prove this point, advocating the need for athletic opportunities for all girls across the country.
