    2015 SASKATCHEWAN SPORT AWARDS NOMINATIONS
    Nominations open October 13th and run until midnight December 3, 2015
    All Sask Sport active members and Districts can recognize and honour their Athletes, Coaches, Officials and Volunteers for their outstanding achievements, dedication and contributions in Saskatchewan's amateur sport during 2015 by nominating them for the 2015 Saskatchewan Sport Awards. Don't forget that PSGBs and Districts can up-date a 2014 nomination and re-submit in the categories of Coach Male & Female Dedication, Official Male & Female and Volunteer awards.

    The Canada Games Council (CGC) was pleased to announce the final sports and disciplines selected for the 2021 Canada Summer Games that will be hosted in Newfoundland and Labrador The sports selected for the 2021 Canada Summer Games program are:

    FIRST NATIONS SUMMER GAMES LEAVE LEGACY
    By all accounts, the 2015 Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games were a huge success. From August 9-15, the host Ochapowace First Nation welcomed 3,000 athletes and approximately 1,500 coaches and chaperones from the province's designated Tribal Councils and Independent First Nations for a week-long competition including: athletics, softball, soccer, canoe, golf, archery and the demonstration sport of beach volleyball. It is estimated that approximately 7,500 people attended the event over the week of competition, as a participant, volunteer or spectator. Read More

     

    AUGUST ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARD RECIPIENT
    Brianne Theisen-Eaton of Humboldt was the recipient of the Sask Sport Inc. August Athlete of the Month Award. She was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics. Brianne was heavily favoured coming into the Heptathlon discipline at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships and she did not disappoint, winning the silver medal with a score of 6,554 points. The breakdown of her score was: 100 metre hurdles - 12.98 seconds (personal best); high jump - 1.80m; shot put - 13.70m; 200m - 23.94 seconds; long jump - 6.55m; javelin -42.94m and 800m - 2:11.52.     SASKATCHEWAN SPORT AWARD PRESENTATIONS
    2014 Coach Dedication Award Presentation - Frank McCrystal • Regina • Football
    When: Saturday, October 24, 2015
    Where: Frank's award presentation will be shown on the large screen at the Saskatchewan Roughrider home game, Taylor Field, Regina. Game starts at 5:00 pm

    2014 Official Award - Male Award presentation - Ron Boden • Saskatoon • Athletics
    When: Saturday, October 24, 2015
    Where: Ron's award presentation will take place at the Bob Adams Foundation - Sask Athletics Awards Banquet, being held at the Prairieland Park in Saskatoon.

    2014 Volunteer Award Presentation - Carol Chernishenko • Zehner • Synchronized Swimming
    When: Saturday, November 14, 2015
    Where: Carol's award presentation will take place at the Synchro Sask Annual Awards Banquet, which is being held in conjunction with the Fall Development Camp & Marnie Eistetter Figures Meet in Estevan.

    RESPECT IN SPORT
    Sask Sport Inc. requires its Active members (PSGBs) to continuously implement a Respect in Sport policy for their coaches. It is important to keep your administrator information up-to-date at all times to ensure all information is accurate. PSGBs who have had changes to their Respect in Sport administrator are required to please complete the Respect in Sport Administrator Change Form and email it to Joelle Buckle at jbuckle@sasksport.sk.ca.

    Please note: All new RiS administrators will be required to attend a training session prior to being given Administrator rights. Sask Sport will work with your organization to provide a training session for your new administrator once the Sport Administrator Change Form has been received.

     

    NCCP COMPETITION - DEVELOPMENT 2015 FALL SCHEDULE
    Registrations are being accepted for the 2015 Fall NCCP Competition - Development Multi-sport modules. All coaches working towards completing their Competition Development certification are encouraged to register for the Fall workshops. For more information on these workshops contact the Coaches Association of Saskatchewan.

    Regina Sport is hosting Women in Sport: Effective Communication Lunch & Learn Workshop facilitated by CAAWS! In sport, effective communication is the foundation for better performance and relationship building. After this workshop participants will be more strategic and efficient in their communication. This workshop is geared toward female coaches in your club, league or organization. Please invite them to participate! Only 10 spots available!

    CANADA'S BUYDENS FOLLOWS HIS HEART FROM CFL DRAFT TO RUGBY WORLD CUP
    Hubert Buydens can recall the choice put to him by B.C. Lions general manager Wally Buono. If he wanted to make it as an offensive lineman in the CFL, Buono advised the young draftee, he would need to gain weight – to more than 300 pounds – and put football ahead of rugby. The choice wasn’t difficult for Buydens, a standout guard at the University of Saskatchewan whom the Lions had in training camp after selecting him in the sixth round of the 2008 CFL Draft. His heart was in rugby.
