Aboriginal Excellence is committed to improving First Nations and Métis athletes' development in high performance sport. The program strives to increase participation and leadership opportunities for Aboriginal athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers.

Aboriginal Excellence aims to develop and prepare athletes for the North American Indigenous Games, the Canada Games and other provincial teams through talent identification and training programs, competition opportunities and coaching advancement.

The program aims to create a dynamic and leading edge sport environment that enables Aboriginal people in Saskatchewan to experience and enjoy involvement in sport to the extent of their abilities and interests and to perform consistently and successfully at higher competitive levels.

Saskatchewan is home to some of the most elite Aboriginal Athletes in North America. Aboriginal Excellence will help ensure our Athletes continued success by creating a strong foundation and legacy for future generations.

For more information on Aboriginal Excellence please contact Coordinator Daniel Longman at dlongman@sasksport.sk.ca or by phone at 306-975-0800.

Aboriginal Excellence is made possible by: Heritage Canada, Saskatchewan Lotteries, Sask Sport Inc., FSIN, MNS and the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport.

2010 FIRST NATION WINTER GAMES

The First Nations Winter Games took place on April 5-10, 2010, hosted by the Saskatoon Tribal Council. The Games brought together First Nations youth from across the province to participate in hockey, volleyball, broomball, badminton, and curling. This year's theme for the Games was: "Our Youth; Our Strength; Our Future." Website

Team Saskatchewan was victorious again!

The 2008 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) were in Cowichan, British Columbia with our athletes capturing 120 medals more than their closest rival.

Adding to their success, the young athletes, coaches earned a huge amount of respect and admiration from across the Nation. Not only by capturing their share of medals, but more importantly Saskatchewan’s Aboriginal youth represented their province with pride and a healthy competitive attitude. Congratulations Team Sask!
