Community Development
Planning Community Sport - A Workbook for Communities
Planning Community Sport - A Workbook for Communities is a tool to help communities build and maintain active sport programs for children and youth. Sport is a significant part of community unity and provides benefits such as healthy lifestyles, self-discipline, and positive self-esteem for individuals.
Sport, Culture and Recreation Districts
There are seven Sport, Culture and Recreation Districts in Saskatchewan. Each District is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. The mandate of the District organizations is to facilitate community development and coordinate District networks with the aim of enhancing access to sport, culture and recreation programs and services in the province. District staff can help communities assess their needs and provide services and information to help them access a wide range of the sport, culture and recreation programs and services that can enhance quality of life and community vitality through increased participation.
The Sport, Culture and Recreation Districts are:
South East Sport, Culture and Recreation District
South West District for Culture, Recreation and Sport
Parkland Valley Sport, Culture and Recreation District
Prairie Central District for Sport, Culture and Recreation
Rivers West District for Sport, Culture and Recreation
Lakeland District for Sport, Culture and Recreation
Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District
The Sport, Culture and Recreation Districts are supported through funding from the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation.
Coaching
In order to compete at the highest level possible, Saskatchewan athletes must have high calibre coaches who can enhance their holistic development as they seek performance excellence. Quality coaching is key to a positive sport experience for all participants.
