Sask Sport Inc. March Athlete of the Month nominees announced
The following athletes have been nominated for the Sask Sport Inc. March Athlete of the Month Award.
- Kendra Schaaf, 18, Craven. Schaaf won the gold medal in the junior women's 4 km race at the North American Central America Caribbean Cross Country Championships. She finished 12 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor and helped lead the Canadian team to win the team championship in this category. Schaaf was the top Canadian and finished in 20th place at the International Association of Athletic Federations World Cross Country Championships. She was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.
- Eugene Hritzuk Senior Men's Curling Team. Skip Eugene Hritzuk, third Kevin Kalthoff, second Verne Anderson, and lead Dave Folk won the Canadian Senior Men's Curling Championships. The team will now compete at the World Seniors Curling Championships in New Zealand. The team was nominated by the Saskatchewan Curling Association.
- Dwight Safroniuk, 39, Saskatoon. At the Special Olympics Canada National Winter Games, Safroniuk won four gold medals in Nordic skiing. Due to this accomplishment, he has a chance to compete at the 2009 World Winter Games in Boise, Idaho. Safroniuk was nominated by Special Olympics Saskatchewan Inc.
