Nominees announced for Sask Sport Inc. November Athlete of the Month Award
The following athletes have been nominated for the Sask Sport Inc. November Athlete of the Month Award:
- Kendra Chernoff, 17, swimming, Saskatoon. Chernoff finished second in the 50m Fly, 6th in the 100m Fly and 10th in the 200m Fly at the Canada Cup. She broke the 1 minute barrier in 100m Fly, which will most likely qualify her for Sport Canada Carding. Chernoff set a new National Age Group record in the 15 - 17 age category during the 100 meter Butterfly event. She broke eight short course provincial records in the 15 - 17 age category and Senior/Open categories. There were 56 swim clubs in attendance and 65 female swimmers in each of the butterfly events. Chernoff was nominated by Swim Saskatchewan.
- Alayna Chan, 14, table tennis, Saskatoon. Chan achieved a personal best at the Canada Cup Finals, competing in singles, doubles and team events. She defeated a Junior-18 finalist during a preliminary round and lost to the other Junior-18 finalist during the elimination round at the Canada Cup Finals. Chan competed in the Pioneer Circuit in Montreal (Nov 22-23), finishing first in the ranked team division. She also competed in the Joola N.A. Teams Championship in Baltimore MD and her team received the award for highest under 18 girls finish. Chan is a member of the four member Canadian Cadet Girls 2016 team and will be competing in 2 ITTF World Junior Events to be held in he US and Canada. She was nominated by the Saskatchewan Table Tennis Association.
- Kendra Schaaf, 18, athletics, Craven. Schaaf won her second consecutive Canadian Junior Cross Country Championship in Guelph, Ontario as a provincial team member. She qualified for the World Championship in Jordan, March 2009, and the NCAC team in Orlando FL. She finished 12th at the NCAA championship in Indiana earning All-American honors as the Washington Huskies won their first ever team title. As a freshman, she won the PAC-10 championships, the Tiger Invitational, and Sundodger Invitational.
