February Sask Sport Inc. Athlete of the Month nominees announced
The following athletes have been nominated for the Sask Sport Inc. February Athlete of the Month Award.
- Lucas Morin, 12, Saskatoon. At the Canadian Age Class Long Track Speed Skating Championships, Morin captured two gold and two silver medals while helping Team Saskatchewan finish in second place. He was nominated by the Saskatchewan Amateur Speed Skating Association.
- Kendra Chernoff, 16, Saskatoon. Chernoff set provincial records in the 50, 100 and 200 fly at the Western Canadian Championships. Due to this accomplishment, she will compete for a position on the Canadian Olympic Team. Chernoff was nominated by Swim Saskatchewan.
- Stephanie McVicar Junior Curling Team. The team of Stephanie McVicar (skip), Kari Kennedy (third), Ashley Gregoire (second), Cori Debert (lead), and coach James Malainey captured the silver medal at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Women Curling Championships. At the competition, Gregoire received a Fair Play Award, and Kennedy was named the All Star Third. The team was nominated by the Saskatchewan Curling Association.
- Janine Polischuk, 23, Regina. At the Canada West University Conference Championships, Polischuk won gold in the 60 metre hurdles, long jump and triple jump. She established a new conference championship record in the triple jump and also won a silver medal in high jump. Due to these accomplishments, Polischuk was named the Most Valuable Female and Female Field Performer of the Meet. She was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.
