Sask Sport Inc. November Athlete of the Month Award Nominations
The following athletes have been nominated for the Sask Sport Inc. November Athlete of the Month Award. The nominees are:
- Rae Ashcroft, Saskatchewan WTF Taekwondo Federation. Ashcroft won a bronze medal in her event at the 2010 Junior Pan-Am Taekwondo Championships in El Salvador after a hard-fought battle for silver. The semi-final match, which went into overtime with a score of 0 to 0, was lost by Ashcroft due to a referee decision. A total of 22 countries participated in the competition.
- Kelly Wiebe, Saskatchewan Athletics. A member of the University of Regina Cougars athletics team, Wiebe recently competed at the 2010 CIS Cross Country Championships in the 10 km event, where he placed third out of 130 athletes. His performance helped the Cougars' Men's Team place fourth in the CIS and first in the Canada West Conference - the first-ever Canada West title for the Cougars program. In recognition of his outstanding performance, Wiebe was named Canada West Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year, First Canada West Team All Star, and First All - Canadian Team honors. At the 2010 Canadian Cross Country Championships, Wiebe placed fourth out of 92 competitors in the Senior Men's 10 km race, and captured second in the team competition with teammates Simon Bairu and Jaime Epp.
